Peter Melvin is a Senior Manager in the Complex Securities Valuation Group. For 13+ years, Peter has specialized in providing targeted financial advisory assistance to clients and communicating results in a clear and concise manner.

Financial Services: Specializes in providing financial advisory assistance to financial services clients for mergers & acquisitions, bankruptcy & restructuring, financial reporting, litigation, tax planning, and hedging, to name a few. Peter has served clients in the areas of asset management fees, auction rate securities, brokerage fees, common stock, convertible debt and preferred, complex capital structures, commodities, core deposits, embedded derivatives, loan portfolios, mutual fund advisory and sub-advisory fees, real estate, securitizations, stock options, stock appreciation rights, swaps, transfer pricing, trusts, and warrants. Clients include commercial banks, exchanges, mutual fund firms, private equity and real estate investment trusts.
Portfolio Valuation: Assists clients in understanding various portfolio types including commercial & residential loan portfolios, fixed income portfolios, and asset-backed securities (auction-rate securities, CDOs, CLOs, student loan structures, etc).
Pricing: Peter also performs econometric based market & pricing studies, e.g. hedonic demand and supply models and price elasticity studies
Thought Leadership. Published academic articles and provided research to numerous financial publications including the Wall Street Journal and Smart Money. Performed numerous presentations for clients and for academic and industry conferences. Presentations given to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, Federal Reserve, Office of Thrift, Office of the Comptroller of the Currency; and a series of derivatives and FASB-related presentations to Fortune 500 chief risk officers and internal auditors. Peter is also the national leader for Complex Securities Go to Market initiative.
Prior to joining Ernst & Young, Peter managed the southeast derivatives team for another Big 4 firm, founded an economic and financial consulting firm, and was a tenured Associate Professor of Finance and Economics lecturing courses on financial management, investment analysis, money and banking and options and futures markets, to name a few.
Peter holds a Ph.D. in Economics specializing in Financial Economics and International Finance, and a Masters in Economics, both from Clemson University, along with a B.S. in Economics with a minor in business from Florida State University.
